The Exhibition Dance Group

The exhibition dance group came about because we are sometimes asked to give public demonstrations of contra dancing. To be sure, the opportunities are not frequent, but it is good to be prepared. Also, we found that some people enjoy dancing with a concentration on style and skill. So, we meet to practice even if there is nothing in particular to practice for.

Exhibition dancers meet before the regular dances, usually while the band is setting up, so we dance to recorded music. Each time we pick just one or two dances to work on.

Anyone can join in who likes the idea of working on a single dance intensively. You should be at least a moderately experienced dancer, since there is no teaching of standard moves. We are not a restrictive group. You don't have to come every time. (Of course, when we actually are going to give a performance, we will need to form a smaller sub-group of dancers, and these will have to to commit themselves to a rather stricter practice schedule.)
