This version given in Jennings (1983). The dance is perhaps a modernization of the the traditional Lamplighter's Hornpipe, which, according to Page (1984) was sometimes called "Road to Californy." In contra dances today, the dance given here as "Road to Californy" is often billed as "Lamplighter's Hornpipe." In many respects, the modernization of Hull's Victory parallels the relationship of "Lamplighter's Hornipipe" to "Road to Californy."
